When creating a table, the UI allowed me to set an invalid configuration (specifically, it was the combination of "Vote on Invalid Words" and "Normal Mode"). But after players have joined, BGA table configurations are unchangeable.
So I have no way of fixing the invalid configuration that I set, and the table is not startable.
Trying to manually start the game, a red toast banner at the top of the screen said:
"Vote on Invalid Words must be played in friendly mode (no ELO)"
Trying to fix this by changing to Friendly Mode, a red toast banner at the top of the screen said:
"You cannot change game configuration of a turn-based table after any opponents have joined the table" -

The bug report about "You cannot change game configuration of a turn-based table after any opponents have joined the table" being undesirable and causing problems needs to be filed against the BGA main website because it has nothing to do with my game (Hardback) in specific and I have no ability to do anything to change this behavior. I didn't code this and I can't fix it.
For what it's worth, I agree that this behavior is problematic.
For instance, look at the game Taluva. When I configure a high player count and then attempt to configure a high count of tiles per player, it errors with the red toast banner "Must use 12 tiles per player with more than 2 players" and it prevents my invalid selection from happening. IMO, this is how Hardback should work for config validations.
Isn't this validation check coming from Taluva app code, not from the BGA platform code? Can't this behavior be used on Hardback too?
I think the solution should be to allow changing the options for turn based to get the best of both worlds - no headache when configuring the table and no problem actually starting the game.
But yeah, so does the platform team. So which of you will get around to fixing this bug first? And will they even agree that it needs fixing? I guess we won't know until we have a platform ticket.
Anyways, I'd make an on selection error message that was more of an instruction than a declaration, like "Switch to Friendly Mode before selecting Majority Vote", or something like that. OR, I'd see if I could allow the change but then reset the other field to still be a valid combo and throw a different message informing the user. OR, I'd try making the majority vote field only conditionally appear based on the game mode being in Friendly Mode. Whatever. Maybe you have thought of all of these already. They all would be improvements
