Yes, please implement the option for only 1 group in group stage. This allows organizers to make a Swiss tournament with a top cut (usually top 8 or 16) followed by single elimination final stage.

Single group Swiss plus single elimination top cut is an extremely common tournament format for trading card games and work great for any 2 player game with some luck aspect.

These are common in Magic: the Gathering tournaments as well, with players earning X-1 record or better always advancing to Top 8. This makes Swiss tournaments similar to Double Elimination but way easier to do pairings and brackets. see here blogs.magicjudges.org/rules/mtr-appendix-e/

Other tournament formats that greatly benefit from this system:

3p, 4p or 6p Swiss tournaments that want a top cut finals. Current system forces organizers to make 2 or 3 groups which splits the player base for no good reason. Match quality diminishes quickly since players will run out of similar scored opponents quickly and point cutoffs to advance often get messy and unfair.

For example a 3p tournament needs 3 groups to make a finals with 3, 9, or 27 players (1, 3, or 9 per group qualify) because we cannot select only 1 group.

*Because the players are split 3 ways after a few rounds players will run out of similarly skilled opponents and matchmaking will get worse over time. Only HUGE games with 200+ tournament size can overcome this IMO.
*Uneven player counts in each group results in more uneven table sizes or more byes. This is brutal for smaller tournaments especially. For example a 24 player 3p tournament should have 8 tables of 3, but if it is Group Stage with 3 groups it is 6 tables of 3 and 6 byes or 3 tables of 2p.
*Qualifying players from 3 groups instead of 1 big group also results in more messy cutoffs to finals. More players with equal score to the bottom of cutoff will be eliminated and point cutoff may vary between groups.

This is a simple Validation bug. Whith including in pull down "Number of groups" - <1 Group> should be okay.

Thank you fajitasmx for your technical comments and an excellent example of a 4/5p tournament that would strongly prefer 1 group.

I have campaigned to get the votes from 15 to 81 in the last month so I think this is worth referring to BGA admins or the new community manager.
