The BGA guidelines say not to calculate things for the players.

As a rule of thumb, in order to respect the original board games, you should not introduce any player assistance feature. An assistance must not be introduced if it directly helps the player to figure out if his move is good or bad. An assistance may be introduced if it can help the payer to figure out what moves are available.

I agree that things like link counts or tile counts are difficult with the screen. I have found that while playing the original board game, these things seldom caused me to change plans. A choice between shipping for 6 points and building a link for maybe 6 Rail Baron points, is an easy choice.

I will keep your suggestion open for a while but at the moment I will not be acting on it.
If enough folks feel that the need for these kinds of counts to be continually updated, I will re-evaluate my decision.

I am in favor of these assists which simply save time and effort and don't change the game. Some games without computer assists are not worth the effort.

There are plenty of games where the longest something is calculated for you.
I am happy to have the work done for me in those games.
I will add counters to show the current values of various things such as longest link and city counts.

Locomotive tokens are infinite in this implementation.
