I had four wheels, three tablets, one compass, and the scientists guild. The best symbol for the scientists guild would be a compass. This would yield two sets = 20 pts, 4 for the compass cards, 9 for the tablets, and 16 for the wheels, for a total of 49 points.
Instead, I was given only 43 points. This indicates that the scientists guild was assigned to be a tablet, yielding one set for 10 pts, compass for 1 pt, 16 tablet pts, and 16 wheel pts.

so adding 1 writing would make it 4 + 4 + 4 + 7 + 7 = 26
gamelog said I was given a mechanism, which would yield only 1 + 9 + 4 + 7 = 21
but score sheet showed 26.
similarly, another player was playing Babylon, and had only 1 Mechanism. Gamelog showed them being awarded a writing, but they got 4 points.
It seems possible that the game log is just always using the wrong word? nothing I can find actually expresses what the mapping is between the icons and the words used in the game log.
I had both the Guild and Board (extra symbols) and 2/1/1. Log indicates Geo and Writing selected.
Calculated score 26 (which I can't reach with any green combination).
Based on log should be 3/1/4 = 21. Optimized should be 3/3/3 = 30. Closest to calculation 3/1/2 = 25.
@shadowscratch: no idea how you're calculating things, let alone get to 3/3/3 with only 6 symbols...

best symbol : 2 (writing) + 4 (mechanism) + 2 (geometry) , 4+16+4+(2x7) = 38
but in this game : 3 (writing) + 3 (mechanism) + 2 (geometry) , 9+9+4+(2x7) = 36

wrong symbol also gets chosen for the Babylon part II wonder, which also promised to choose the best card, which would have been geometry in this case...
Same here, I had 4 Writing symbols and no other symbols. Then I also had Babylon Stage 2 and the Scientists Guild.
The game gave me 4 Writing + 1 Mechanism + 1 Geometry = 25 points.
If it gave me 2 more Writing, I would be getting 6 Writing = 36 points.
