Maybe of note: the other player did not play words the turn before and discarded cards (moves 75-76).

This is not a bug! In addition to the three score-doubling patents (B, J, and K), the Q letter has a special ability that doubles any word with a Q. (This is separate from the Q patent ability, which doesn't affect score.) All these "doublers" stack. The rulebook isn't super clear on the fact that these stack, but the game designer has clarified this on the BGG forums (boardgamegeek.com/thread/1390859/do-b-and-j-abilities-stack). Perhaps I could help players understand this by adding a bit of text to the bottom of the tooltip for the Scoring game card.

I added some text to the Scoring game card to help inform players of the possible doubling abilities. Even though this wasn't a bug, thanks for filing it; it's good to know that this rule wasn't clear.

This is a bug. Having just the J patent shouldn't allow the score to do x4. (I know combined patents allow for x4, but this is only one special patents).

This happened in a game I just had where my opponent played 'Queers' - the only special patent they had was for double points if the word contains half or more vowels and they were awarded x4 points.

Hi, I just read this report. I had the same issue with patent B. I played ETRIQUE (in French), and I had 24 points. So I understand it was double for B patent and double for Q patent. It is not clear how the Q patent works, that's the 1st time I understand you get double for a word including the letter Q.
I like your suggestion to add some text top explain to players, maybe in the Q patent explanation

The Q patent ability does not affect scoring. The Q letter card has a bonus that is separate from the Q patent. To get this bonus you just need to play the Q letter as part of a word; you don't need to buy the Q patent. This bonus doubles the word in which the Q was played.

The scoring card tooltip and the Q letter card tooltip say this, as well as the Rules Summary wiki and the official rules. The Q letter card also has a small "x2" under the letter to help remind you about this.
